There are some very unique videos that date back to Tunnel Mill in 1929. Included in the videos are interviews with Pete Holmes who served as Troop 1 scoutmaster from 1922 through the 1940's. In addition, Byron Drumb is interviewed. He served as council president and also attended the very first camp at Tunnel Mill in 1928. A visit to the Maple Sugar Festival and hiking at Delaney Park. 2006 TROOP ACTIVITIES The troop spends the night at the Jeffersonville Fieldhouse for its annual Christmas Lock-In. Cub Scouts enjoy the annual Pinewood Derby and winter swim. TROOP ONE AND SCOUTING HISTORY Troop has the proud heritage of serving area youth since 1911. The section contains an unique collection of videos related to the history of Scouting in southern Indiana. Tunnel Mill 1929 During the second year of the camping season at the new Tunnel Mill Scout Reservation, Charles Hertzch had a documentary film commissioned that showed the activities at the scout camp. This film was used for promotional purposes. It shows the daily activities at Tunnel Mill. It is an unique look at the scouting in the 1920's. It is one of the earliest known films of Scouting in America. Thanks go to Dr. Joseph Buchman who helped to preserve and to restore this rare film. Joe has remained active in Boy Scouting since his days as a camp staff member and Order of the Arrow lodge chief at Tunnel Mill. He and his family currently reside in Park City, Utah. Joining the celebration were present day Scouts and Council Executive John Alline who is now a top executive with the national office in Irving, Texas. CLIMBING AT TUNNEL MILL 1988 Explorer Post 1 does a rapelling and climbing day at Tunnel Mill at Silent Falls and off the bridge. THE BOUNDARY WATERS 1989 In 1989 Explorer Post 1 took a fantastic trip through the Boundary Waters. The crews launched out of the Sommers National Canoe Base in Ely, Minnesota. During the week, the Explorers saw the Northern Lights, viewed the Milky Way at night, had close encounters with bears and enjoyed the pristine wilderness of northern Minnesota and Canada. The post spent a week deep in the Colorado Rockies where they hiked to the top of the 14,000 foot plus high Mt. Shavano, rafted the Arkansas River and had many other exciting times. This video was taken on the weekend before camp ranger Andy campbell was fatally shot by an intruder on November 6, 1996. NIGHT WATCH An all night Explorer activity featuring a visit to the University of Louisville basketball practice facility, a cruise on the Star of Louisville, the fire and police explorers do a simulation of a wreck scene, a visit to the Courier-Journal, the U.S. postal facility and bowling. What a night!
